Exploring Gunung Yong Belar Day Hike

April, 12 2014

Mount Yong Belar is the third highest mountain in peninsular Malaysia with the height of 2181 m a.s.l. located on Titiwangsa Range between Perak - Kelantan boarder. It is one of the famous G7 mountains for hikers to access their level of fitness on day hike for total hiking distance of 20 KM with multiple ups and downs which affecting the altitude gained-lossed.

The trail is clear a long the way except for finding the right path to cross the stream, we spent extra hours on that part which cause us hiked in the dark while descent.

Stage 1 : Staircase with more than 200 steps.

Stage 2 : Pipe walking (Follow the pines all the way until you have reached state border marker, you got to follow the red color pine which lead you to left till river).

Stage 3 : Stream crossing (Refer to the photo below). You shall see the flat terrain with hut just a minute after crossing the stream.

Stage 4 : Flat terrain along the way from hut to forest entrance.

Stage 5 : Multiple false peaks will lead you to the Camp Tudung Periuk.

Stage 6 : Long journey with muddy and mossy path lead you to Camp Kasut

Stage 7 : All the way up to the summit of Gunung Yong Belar.

Please take notes :

1. Find the rights path to cross the stream (We missed out the turn and continue follow the pine till end of road, crossed the stream and continue the path which will lead us to Gunung Siku). Wasted quite a lot of our time over there.

2. No GSM network coverage on starting point, the strongest GSM network coverage I noticed was in the Forest Entrance area (The best area to contact the 4x4 pick up while descent)

  2. Hi, I am Billy. If you cannot recall, we met once during your 6th climb to Gunung Nuang at Kem Pengasih, I am the Chinese guy with long hair who climbed alone that time. I would like to ask if its possible for you to be a mountain guide for any mountains that you knew about?

    Thank you.

  8. Hi Mchiker,
I have always read your escapades to all the mountains that you hike. I envy you for the joy and thrill every time you scale a new hike. May l ask a silly question like go you use GPs for your hike?
I bought a Garmin 78 but still can't figure out how to use. I saw you put in the gps coordinates and l just can't relate its usefulness. Hope you can revert. May l have your mobile. You are to me the role model and benchmark for hikers in Malaysia.

    1. Hi James,

      Thanks for your comments.
I was using my Android and IOS apps to logged my journey those times and using Garmin Fenix 3 since last year. Both apps and watch provide an accurate GPS data in order for me to generate the trail log, profile and verification of the landmarks.

The Garmin 78 device could upload the GPS log and do navigation / reference check during your hike.
