Exploring Gunung Korbu Day Trip
April, 09 2016
Mount Korbu is the highest peak in
Titiwangsa Mountains and the second highest mountain in Peninsular Malaysia,
standing at 2,813 meters. Mount Korbu and Mount Gayong can be hiked together, “Korga” - a common word you can see in internet. The distance
between the two mountains approx. 2.9 KM (One hour plus journey) but not easy especially doing day trip.
There are two ways could go to
Korbu-Gayong :-
- Via Empangan Sultan Azlan Shah (Ulu Kinta Dam)
- Via Cameron Highlands (Titi V1 / V2 / V3)
You could plan few options:-
- Camping trip (Empangan Sultan Azlan Shah – Waterfall – Kem Seroja – Kem Kijang – Last Water Point – Botak – Cuban – Korbu Peak – Gayung Peak and return same way)
- Water source : Kem Seroja/ Kem Kijang / Last Water Point
- Trans V1 comping trip (Blue Valley Dam – Kem Tudung Periuk – Kem Kasut – Yong Belar – Kem Kuali – Anak Yong Belar – Puncak H20 – Kem H20 – Gunung Junction – Kem Cerek – Gunung Gayung – Gunung – Korbu – Chubun – Botak – Last Water Point – Kem Kijang – Kem Seroja – Waterfall – Empangan Sultan Azlan Shah)
- Water source : Kem Tudung Periuk / Kem Kasut / Kam Kuali / Kem H20 / Kem Cerek / Last Water Point / Kem Kijang / Kem Seroja
- Others Trans camping trip
- Trans V1 day trip
- Korbu / Korga day trip
This round we joined with a big
group for the Korga day hike. With my current fitness, I know I could not touch
Korbu signboard within the cut off time given (13:00) before proceeding to Gayung. Therefore,
I did not push myself too hard after the first Check Point (Kem Seroja).
The trail start with 2 KM “Never
Ending Road” follow by multiple river crossing. It will takes up your time and easy
to lost trek when descent after a long day hike. A nice waterfall (a bit inside
from the trail) would be easily miss out if you were running too fast.
Kem Seroja comes with big campsite
area and Kem Kijang provide a clear water source just beside the campsite.
All the way ascent from Kem Kijang onward till Korbu peak. You might need to carry few liters of water from Last Water
Point to Botak / summit if you are doing a camping trip.
From Botak onward with multiple
false peak and uncountable steel ladders to climb until Korbu peak.
Korbu itself will be a long day hike journey and be prepared for night hike if you are doing Korga day trip, except for
those super fit trail runners / fast and experience hikers. Many of them took extra time descent from Gayung
to car park on that day, thanks for those sifu (master) who were looking out for others to ensure everyone out safely.
I would advise to complete Gunung Liang, Rajah, Reverse Trans Nuang day trip first before proceed to Korbu / Korga day trip.

Many thanks
You might arrange with Dam Gate P.I.C during your permit application on entering the Dam.
