Exploring Rafflesia
August, 22 2020
Rafflesia is the biggest single flower in the world. There are found in Southeastern Asia, on the Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Thailand and Philippines. As far as I know in Malaysia, you could found it in Sabah, Kelantan (Gua Musang District) and Perak (Gopeng District).
Rafflesia without flowering session, it seeds need six to nine months to bloom but will wither in few days. I come cross that this month is the blooming month of Rafflesia in Gua Musang District, without delay I contacted the Asli guide and organised a trip to visit the biggest flower in the world. Two 4x4 and three Asli guide accompany 17 of us for the whole trip.
What a lucky day to us, we managed to see the whole life cycle of Rafflesia in one day.
The journey started with 4x4 from R&R Lojing Gua Musang to plantation about 15 minutes. Trekked for almost 1 hours 15 minutes we by passed the full blooming Rafflesia flower as a group of trekker was visiting it. We continue trekked for 10 minutes and found three flowers with different life cycle. Further trekked for 5 minutes we found another the Rafflesia seed and one almost full blooming flower. After all types of photography section we finally returned to the first sporting area to visit the full blooming rafflesia.

Hi McHiker,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
I've been reading your blogs avidly and am so impressed by your postings, pictures and stories.
First of all, my apologies for posting this message here but the comment section for your Naning-Tampin trans hike is not accessible.
I've read that blog and am planning to try it. I've tried searching the web for a gpx file but am not able to find any. Would you be kind enough to share it with me?
Also, do you still have the contact of the van driver who drove you all from Datuk to Tampin? Can also share the contact details?
Thank & hope to hear from you soon.
A group of 5 interested in Cameron Holiday tour package on rafflesia flower and mossy forest on 27/11/21 please provide tour package operator contact, thank you
ReplyDeleteHi McHiker. I must say you have an interesting blog. May I know if you, by any chance, organise small hiking group to hike together? I would love to tag along in one of those trip, if timing is right.
