Exploring Gunung Besar Hantu (GBH)
January, 13 2018
Gunung Besar Hantu, the highest mountain in Negeri Sembilan with the high of 1462 meter (4796 feet) located 33 KM away from Titi town. This is one and only mountain in Negeri Sembilan (As far as I know) which you could not apply permit on the spot at the entrance. Not like Gunung Datuk, Gunung Angsi, Gunung Berembun where you could just paid and hike.
Gunung Besar Hantu suppose to be my last mountain hike in 2017 but due to no permit, we changed our plan to Gunung Telapak Buruk on that day. You may apply the permit in Pejabat Renjer Hutan Daerah Jelebu Kuala Klawang in advance nearby JKR office and opposite Petronas station.
There are two starting point; You could start from Lata Kijang Waterfall or start from guardhouse directly. The trek start with 4.6 KM logging road which is similar to Nuang never ending road or much more similar to logging road in Gunung Rajah.
Stage 1: Logging Road (4.6 KM)
We started with 4WD from guardhouse and just after the junction to Lata Kijang Waterfall (about 1.6 KM from guardhouse), the road blocked by some falling trees and we forced to start our never ending road hiking till Kem Sg. Kering (before river crossing).
Stage 2: Kem Sg. Kering - Kem Orkid (3.4 KM)
Trek similar like Gunung Rajah from end of logging road to Y river, doesn't feel much ascent till campsite.
Stage 3: Kem Orkid - T junction (GKH/GBH) (1 KM)
All the way up to T junction
Stage 4: T-junction (GKH/GBH) to Gunung Besar Hantu Peak (700 m)
Not much ascent just relax and enjoy the cool weather
Stage 1
0903 Started from Guardhouse with 4WD
0935 Road blocked, start hiking on logging road
1026 Reached Kem Sg. Kering
Stage 2
10:30 Start from Kem Sg. Kering
11:10 Rest Point
11:24 Continue
11:41 Reached Kem Orkid
Stage 3
12:19 Continue from Kem Orkid
13:00 Reached T Junction (GKH/GBH) keep right to GBH
Stage 4
13:03 Continue from T Junction
13:34 Reached GBH Summit
Descent
15:05 Start descent
15:20 Reached T Junction
15:47 Reached Kem Orkid
16:04 Continue
